What to Expect
After the Massage

Back to:: The Massage | Up to: What to Expect

At the end of the massage your therapist will completely drape you with the sheet and then leave the room. Take a few minutes to lie on the table and adjust to the feelings you may experience. It is not uncommon to feel somewhat lightheaded after a massage. Remember there is no rush so take your time getting up from the table and dressing

Once you are ready, open the door and your therapist will return to discuss how you are feeling and provide any final bodywork and instructions, such as drinking extra water. Water is necessary to flush the waste and toxins released by the massage out of your body. Be sure to drink plenty of water after your massage.

Ideally, take time after the massage before returning to work or other responsibilities that are counter to the effects of the massage, especially physically demanding or stressful tasks.

You may feel invigorated, relaxed, or even sleepy after a massage. If you have had a difficult or stressful time recently you may realize you are more fatigued than you knew initially.

A clinical massage often relieves chronic and acute pain, but leave a soreness or general ache due to the pressure used during the massage. Try to rest before returning to the activities that produce the tension or pain.

It is important to increase the amount of water you typically drink for a couple of days after the massage.

If you have any questions after your massage, please feel free to call or e-mail your therapist and discuss it with them.
