If, during the massage, the pressure is too much at any time it is important to let the therapist know this. The goal is for you to relax and feel better. If you are tightening your muscles during the massage it is counterproductive to the end goals. It is natural during a deep tissue massage to tense slightly then relax, but if you are continuously clenched, it is a sign that the therapist needs to use less pressure. Conversely, if you prefer that your therapist use more firm pressure, please let them know that as well. Therapists are adept at adjusting their techniques to your preferences, so do not hesitate to talk to the therapist and express what you want. Proper breathing is essential to a successful massage. Not only does this assist in relaxation, but in muscle and tissue release as well. It is possible you may experience intense emotions during the massage. This is nothing to be concerned about. If this happens, the therapist will ask if you are all right to continue the massage, and either continue, pause, or end the massage accordingly.
